Executive Coaching

Every business owner and manager knows that it is lonely at the top. If you are lucky, you have a number of people you can talk to. People with whom you can openly and honestly discuss what is going on in your business or your department or even your personal life. But openness and honesty are hard when you are in charge. You are supposed to have the answers, not a bunch of questions. It is not comfortable to show your uncertainties and vulnerabilities to others, especially if they are superiors or subordinates.

One option is to become a member of a group of similar executives and/or owners who gather for periodic meetings to communicate with each other, openly and honestly. Some groups meet monthly. Others meet quarterly or semi-annually. But communication is not limited to the meetings. Members often call each other to talk.

If you are not a member of a group, and you don’t have someone to talk to, then you are out on an island, all by yourself. And it is lonely on that island. An executive coach can help by being the sounding board you need. A coach is not there to tell you what to do. A coach is there to listen. Sometimes, talking out loud is all you need to work the problem. Other times, a coach can help you work the problem, develop possible solutions and their ultimate outcomes. But, the solution is not the end. Implementation is the key. A coach can help you stay on track to implement the solution and if necessary make adjustments to achieve the desired results. A coach is there to help, without judgement.
